| This is a design concept for a weight for making
an superior weight for spine testing arrows allowing for rotating
the arrow freely and observing variances in arrow stiffness
over the rotation of the arrow's shaft which is a known issue with
various shaft materials. One could remove the existing bolt from
the Water Leveling Tool and attach a 2lb scuba weight or a weight found on ebay drilled and taped for a 1/4" x 20 bolt (A machine shop may do this for ~$20) which can then be shaved, sanded and or drilled out to match the 1.94 lb weight prescribed by the ASA. It is suggested that one purchase blanks in groups of 24 and sort out the more anomalous shafts for uses where accuracy is not so important. One could use it without modification of the weight therefore losing the ability to accurately compare to published spine deflection data offered by arrow manufacturers.
