As a gateway to desktop cnc manufacturing the CNC laser is probably the least maintenance
and stands to be able to up-cycle materials from one's own area. No need for specially prepared
 materials or storage. Personalization of people's own items or items to be gifted 
is a potential market also for those feeling confident in their abilities with their hardware and software.

Often CNC lasers are  convertible into light to moderate duty CNC routers.
This allows for the minimization of  having to go through as much of a  learning curve
