South bend Logan or Sheldon
Logan is a knock off of a southbend
void Atlas. They are built much lighter than teh equivalent S-B, Logan , Sheldon, etc. Parts are, however, available new, and are much cheaper than for S-B, new.
SouthBend are nice. Heavy 10 is quite nice. However, around here, S-B is priced high due to the name. I have seen most 9" priced at $1000 with NO TOOLING....bare lathe.
Logan has the advantage of parts supply from Logan , although not cheap. They are not priced up due to the name. They accept S-B tooling and etc.
Logan 11" has a 1 3/8 spindle bore and takes 5C collets, like a S-B heavy 10.
I'd stay with S-B or Logan. Atlas is just too "hobby", although you can do good work on them.

When threading on a manual lathe, you can EITHER always engage the half-nut on the lead screw and return the carriage by reversing the spindle rotation through the motor drive …
… OR, you can use a thread dial or indicator which meshes with the leadscrew and shows when the half-nut can be engaged, so that the tool will cut along the same thread.
