Sunwin Laser

t's really a great laser module. I am assuming it's a NUBM47 6-7 watt diode. I took the time to test out the laser on a variety of different materials and to be honest, I was not really impressed. I could not figure out why the laser performed so poorly compared to results I'd seen on youtube for similar modules. The laser was bright, focused to a great point and burned, but did not burn well. I was having to slow the feeds down to 1/8th speed to get any results. I tried changing out the diode driver board, no difference. Eventually, I switched out the lens for a G2 lens. At that very instant, it became a totally different beast. This laser is a monster with the right lens. I pulled apart the housing for the lens that this module shipped with and it was actually, two lenses sandwiched together. I've not seen this arrangement before, but it was obviously intentional. Whatever Sunwin thought they were doing by shipping with this lens combination, it was clearly a bad decision. What I like about this device is the cooling housing with the top fan mount. It's a smart idea that I wish more manufacturers would adopt. In this configuration, there is no need for additional air assist. If you've bought one of these modules and like me, you were less than impressed with it's performance, buy a G2 lens. For $12.00 USD it's the best upgrade you can get for these.
