Timers for Outlets Fans Lights...
Timers: To fully avoid and vampire loads use a spring type timer.
Two issues... Power savings and safety.
The Spring type timers can not be used for the bottom 5 percent of their range do to the needs of the mechanism.
The digital ones do have a half life which is typeical of most consumer electronics of 4 to 13 years.
Some of the digital ones may not work with certain electronics.
The more expensive spring types will last for. Life exectancy 5 years.
The merits of a timer are directly proportional to the load being controlled.
You will find it difficult to justify auto off for light loads being
switched on an off frequently using a spring type as that the cost will
be more than the power used.
The wind up ones should never be forcibly shut off by turning the knob counterclockwise.
Instacalc timer calc economics.
